How it does by region.
Every market has its own weather. Here is what your local crew will tell you.
Plains and Upper Midwest
Cold-rated vinyl with aluminum-reinforced bottom rails handles Nebraska wind and winter.
Florida and the Gulf Coast
The right choice for Florida: humidity, salt air and termites do nothing to it.
Front Range and Mountain West
UV-stabilized vinyl matters at altitude. We only install panels rated for high sun.
Vinyl & PVC questions, answered.
Does vinyl crack in the cold?
Modern vinyl is rated for cold, but it is less flexible in winter. Avoid impacts on the coldest days and it will not be a problem.
Will it yellow?
Quality vinyl has UV inhibitors and carries a fade warranty. The bargain panels at big box stores are the ones that yellow.
Can vinyl handle wind?
Yes, with the right posts and spacing. Your crew sets posts closer together in open, windy lots.
